End-of-life / humane euthanasia
Pets enrich our lives beyond measure. Making the choice to euthanize a pet is never an easy one. If you are not sure it is the "right time" to say final good-bye, a consultation with us may help to make the decision easier.
When the time comes to make the very difficult decision to say goodbye to your beloved pet nothing compares to the familiarity of one’s own home. At-home euthanasia provides the utmost privacy and comfort for your pet and it's human family during this final chapter of life. Aftercare services can be coordinated for you including transportation of your pet and cremation services.
How does it work?
Prior to your appointment, if needed Vet on Wheels (VOW) Mobile Veterinary Services may request any previous medical records from your current clinic to get a complete picture of your pet’s health.
When we arrive at your home, we will take a detailed medical history and complete a thorough physical examination assessing all of your pet's body systems.
Following this assessment, a diagnostic, vaccination and/or treatment plan will be discussed with you. Many veterinary procedures and treatments can be offered in the home.
If a prescription is required, Vet on Wheels (VOW) Mobile Veterinary Services maintains an inventory of pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, parasite control products, medicated shampoos and more that can be dispensed as needed.
If we do not carry a specific medication or formulation we can either give you a prescription to take to your local pharmacy or make a special order of the appropriate medication.
*Due to the nature of house call services, we may refer your pet at the time of calling or after the initial consultation to a veterinary medical facility.
**Medications and preventatives require an initial exam to establish a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) prior to dispensing any medication. In some cases, we may ask for your assistance in holding your pet during the procedure.
***Due to the nature of mobile service, we are unable to perform certain medical procedures and diagnostics at your home. If your pet requires diagnostics (such as lab work, x-rays, surgery, hospitalization, or emergency care) we will let you know and make recommendations.
